Lissa Engle’s London Walkabout 2011

Join us for a 15 kilometer walk on Saturday June 18th at 10:00 am (with an option of doing a shorter 5k walk) around Hyde Park, Green Park, and St. James’s Park to raise money to donate wheelchairs to people in need in the developing world.

The walk will commence at Hyde Park’s Band Stand. Email londonwalkabout@thewalkaboutfoundation.org to register. You will receive all details in an email once you’ve registered.

It’s free to join the walk but we encourage participants to fundraise any amount they can, whether its £200 pounds (or $300 dollars) for an entire wheelchair or just a few pounds for wheelchair parts. KX GYM is our headline sponsor, which means 100 percent of all funds raised go directly to the cause. Here’s what the money you raise can buy:

£10 = front wheel
£21 = back rest
£30 = main frame

Dana Conroy’s Camino de Santiago 2014

I’m asking my friends and family to help me as I set out on what’s sure to be an enlightening journey along Spain’s ancient pilgrim’s path, the Camino de Santiago de Compostela, for Walkabout Foundation.

Five years ago, my friend Carolina Gonzalez-Bunster and her brother, Luis, started Walkabout after Luis was unable to get into their local YMCA in Connecticut which had no ramp or elevator. Luis had suffered a spinal cord injury in a car accident when he was 18 years old which left him paralyzed from the chest down. Together, the pair took action and started Walkabout Foundation to promote awareness of paralysis and disabilities, and raise money for wheelchairs for those who couldn’t afford them. Luis and Carolina launched the foundation with a 500 mile walk along the Camino, and Luis became the first person in the history of Spain to cross the entire country using only the strength of his two arms.

I’ll be joining Walkabout to celebrate the five year anniversary of its start with another trek along the Camino. I’d love your support on The Way, as it’s known, . $300 buys one wheelchair for someone who otherwise wouldn’t have one. Help me make a difference.

Walkabout Foundation is a charity started by siblings Luis and Carolina Gonzalez Bunster after Luis sustained a spinal cord injury which left him paralysed from the chest down. Their mission is to fund research to find a cure for paralysis and to donate wheelchairs to people in need all over the world. They’ve donated over 5,000 chairs in over 15 countries in the span of 4 years and they’ve funded millions in paralysis research.

Please donate on my page to support their amazing work!
